Respect Life Committee

The purpose of the Respect Life Committee is to offer prayer and action on behalf of the unborn so that abortion will be eliminated and to promote those causes and organizations that offer help to mothers who decide against abortion and give birth to their child.  The committee is also concerned with the religious and secular issues dealing with the dignity of the human person at all age levels.

The emphasis of this committee will be on prayer and efforts to raise the consciousness of our Parish to moral issues.  Along with private prayer, members should be willing to participate in group holy hours and prayers on behalf of the dignity of human life.  They should also be willing to contact Congress and other civic groups.

This committee is open to all parishioners who wish to make a commitment in this area. Activities include the following: 1) Prayer Group “For God's Precious Infants" meets every Thursday after 8:30 Mass in the Chapel.   2) Participate in the" Life Chain". It occurs once a year on the first Sunday of October in front of St. Mary's School on Locust Street from 12:45 pm to 2 pm.  3) Read the "Life Matters" Bulletin sent from the Pro Respect Life Diocesan Coordinator, Mitch Streidel. These are placed on bulletin Boards in the Parish Center and at the back of Church, teacher’s mailboxes at St. Mary's School, and in the Chapel for Holy Hour each Tuesday.  4) Attend the" Respect Life and Natural Family Planning Day" held once a year usually in Rochelle. The Bishop is present at the opening Mass to Commission the coordinators from each parish in our diocese. Any one may attend this by contacting the PRLC of your Parish.  5) Donate time and talent to the Gianna House Pregnancy Center, located in Rock Falls. They hold a fund raiser banquet held once a year, usually in November.  6) Become a member of the Legislative e-mail tree to combat the "Culture of Death" legislation. [This activity can only be activated by the Diocesan PRLC, through the PRLC of each Parish in our Diocese.]  7) Purchase a "Choose Life" magnet for your car and display it.   8) Donate items to Gianna House Pregnancy Center. [See wish list posted on the bulletin Board at the entrance to the Parish Center.]   9) Submit your ideas for Pro Life Activities to the Parish Coordinator.
